Computer Assisted Surgery (CAS)
Computer assisted surgery (CAS) is currently in use by Dr. Tim Rankin at PMH Medical Center. This progressive hip and knee joint replacement technology is an overwhelming success for patients. CAS procedures deliver significant advantages over traditional surgical techniques.
CAS brings together the proven benefits of minimally invasive surgery with computer-guided implant placement to virtually eliminate implant misalignments and significantly reduce overall recovery times.
CAS works like a global positioning system, GPS, in your car by using fixed locations in the body particular to each patient. The surgeon uses CAS to locate specific anatomical landmarks to take critical measurements of the patient’s anatomy. The computer tracks the precise position of the patient’s body, the implant, and the surgeon’s instruments at all times. The surgeon still performs the surgery; CAS simply puts all the information together for a more precise alignment.
PMH Medical Center was the first Hospital to offer this innovative CAS technology in southeastern Washington.
